HOLOCAUST MUSEUM HOUSTON

Digital Archives Intern (Fall 2016)
One opening is available in the digital archive management division of the Holocaust Museum Houston. The intern would learn how to archive museum artifacts into a digital catalog. The primary goal of the internship would be to help produce a working digital catalog of all the museum's current holdings. 

Preferred applicants will have:

  • Interest in image/media management, digital content management, digital preservation, digital curation, and digital asset management is required
  • Basic knowledge of image processes and ability to follow best practices and standards in the field is required.
  • Database management and organizational skills, as well as attention to detail, are a must.
  • Knowledge of front-end web development would be preferred. 

*Image disclaimer: Some artifacts from the Holocaust Museum may be disturbing to some students due to the graphic nature of their contents. 

THE MENIL COLLECTION

Writing and Editing Intern (Fall 2016 - Spring 2017)
One student intern will assist primarily in the writing, editing, and production of the Menil Collection’s semi-annual membership bulletin which contains articles on exhibitions, public programs, research initiatives, and more. The intern will gain skills in producing copy, interviewing subjects, collaborating with the graphic designer, and working with photos and layout. Preferred skills: Ability to plan, research, and write copy for feature stories.

Rights & Reproduction Intern (Fall 2016 - Spring 2017 and Summer 2017)
Internship opportunities in the Imaging Services department at The Menil Collection will provide the intern with invaluable, real-world experience in digital asset management and rights and reproductions for a world-renowned collection of art. Interns will become familiar with the Menil’s collection materials, receive training in asset management, preservation, and permissions processes. The intern will have opportunities to develop research, technical, and administrative skills as well as work with industry-standard software and hardware. Additionally, interns will gain experience preparing images for a wide variety of stakeholders and platforms including the Menil website and online educational resources such as Artstor, Shared Shelf, and the Getty Research Portal. Internship projects will be assigned according to the skill set and interests of the applicant. Preferred skills: Ability to plan, research, and write copy for feature stories.

Advancement Intern (Fall 2016 - Spring 2017)
One student intern needed to provide assistance in the Advancement Department of the Menil Collection.  Previous office experience preferable. The intern will:

  • Compile and organize documentation of past membership committees (Menil Contemporaries and Menil Society).
  • Assist Prospect Researcher in updating records in the department’s database (Raiser’s Edge). 
  • Review local publications including Houston Chronicle, Paper City, Houston Business Journal, and more.  Upload any relevant donor data found in the department’s database.
  • Update and cross-reference donor lists.
  • Contact other museums to inquire about programs/events offered to upper-level membership groups.  Compile a report detailing information obtained.
  • Research and review the annual reports and planned giving donor pages of other institutions (Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Houston Ballet, Houston Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, et. al.).  Cross-check data again the department’s database.

Digital Asset Management Intern (Fall 2016 - Spring 2017)

Additionally, interns will gain experience preparing images for a wide variety of stakeholders and platforms including the Menil’s website and online educational resources such as ARTstor, Shared Shelf, and the Getty Research Portal. Internship projects will be assigned according to the skill set and interests of the applicant.

Digital Asset Management Interns will assist the Digital Asset Manager with processing and cataloging assets, both analog and digital, according to imaging best practices and metadata standards of the field to support a variety of projects and programs at the Menil Collection. Interns will provide technical, clerical, and logistical support for imaging, rights and reproductions, and digital asset management for collection materials.

Preferred skills:

  • Interest in image production processes, media management, digital content management, digital preservation, digital curation, and digital asset management is required
  • Basic knowledge of image processes and ability to follow best practices and standards in the field is required.
  • Graphics and organizational skills, as well as attention to detail,  are a must.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop and flatbed scanners.
  • Familiarity with Bridge and Microsoft Office programs preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Self Motivated

ASIA SOCIETY TEXAS CENTER

Education and Outreach Intern (Fall 2016 - Spring 2017)
There is one opening in the Education and Outreach Department and official starting date will be the week of August 22, running through week of November 28. Initial internship period will be for fall 2016 semester with potential extension for spring 2017 semester dependent on intern’s performance. Internship will not exceed 10 hours per week and may include evenings or weekends. Possible projects may include research and resource development for upcoming educational activities related to exhibitions, including docent training packets and k-12 educational projects related to exhibitions. The intern also may help research and develop content for family days, creation stations, and ExploreAsia summer camps. The ideal candidate will have experience in arts education. Intern may be asked to help with execution of educational programs. 

Preferred Skills:

  • Demonstrated passion for arts and culture education and the Asia Society mission
  • Completed at least one year of undergraduate studies and be currently enrolled in at least 12 credit hours 
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Performing Arts and Culture Intern (Fall 2016 - Spring 2017)
There is one opening in the Performing Arts and Culture Department and official starting date will be the week of August 22, running through week of November 28. Initial internship period will be for fall 2016 semester with potential extension for spring 2017 semester dependent on intern’s performance. Internship will not exceed 10 hours per week and may include evenings or weekends. Possible projects may include research for upcoming performing arts and culture programs, logistical support during events, technical and production assistance, and helping in the initial conceptualization of programs. Ideal candidate will have experience and/or interest in both the artistic development and operations for performing arts and culture programs, which may include music, dance, film, author talks, and food programs. 

Preferred skills:

  • Demonstrated passion for performing arts and culture and the Asia Society mission
  • Completed at least one year of undergraduate studies and be currently enrolled in at least 12 credit hours 
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of an Asian language not required, but is an asset

Operations/IT Intern (Fall 2016 - Spring 2017)
One opening available in fall/spring semester for around 8-10 hours a week.  (Weekday and weekend scheduling available.) Projects would include spreadsheet development, assisting with internal IT projects, creating warranty and contract tracking, assisting with work station set up, explore possibility of employee portal, misc. IT related projects. Preferred skills: Interest in computers and IT related work, and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Data/Membership Intern (Summer 2016 and Fall 2016) 
One opening for full time summer and one opening for part time fall/spring.  Flexible start dates available.  Projects would include improving membership data integrity, Updating donor/membership data, generating renewal letters, tracking responses and imputing renewals, assisting with stewardship of members and soliciting new members, assisting with the streamlining of the membership process and improving communication materials. Preferred skills: attention to detail, ability to maintain confidentiality, effective business communication/writing skills, interest in development, strong interpersonal skills, enthusiasm for our mission.

Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Control Intern (Fall 2016 - Spring 2017) 
One opening.  Spring/Fall opening with flexible start dates.  Average hours between 8-10 per week both weekday and weekend scheduling available.  Projects would include assisting with development and execution of standard operating procedures guidelines, the development and execution of quality assessments as it relates to programming feedback surveys, data collection, and follow up action plans.  Projects would involve opportunities to develop/write surveys, develop and write SOP's, compile data, and deliver assessment findings. Preferred applicants will have an interest in business/technical writing.
