All full-time students entering the Rice graduate program in Art History receive a six-year fellowship package, that includes an annual stipend and a tuition waiver. Continued support is contingent upon satisfactory progress in the program and toward the degree. Beginning July 1, 2024, the annual base stipend for full-time students is $34,000.
Students entering the PhD program’s Museum Professionals track enroll as part-time students, and do not receive an annual stipend. However, students on the Museum Professional track are awarded tuition waivers for their first five years of study, contingent upon satisfactory progress in the program. Museum Professional Track students still enrolled in the program after the fifth year pay reduced tuition; however, advanced students who have secured additional fellowships, or research and teaching assistantships can continue to receive tuition waivers.
Additionally, generous funding opportunities from within the department and university, and in coordination with local museums are available. For more information, please see Graduate Awards and Funding & Additional Opportunities.
