Evan Joachim

Congratulations to senior Evan Joachim, double majoring in Ancient Mediterranean Civilizations (AMC) and Classical Studies with a minor in Art History and MUCH, who has been accepted to the MA program in Classical Archaeology at Florida State University on a full ride.

Evan was previously awarded the HART Lovett Fellowship and the Charles Garside AMC Summer Travel Grant which helped fund their summer travels last year to attend two archaeological excavation programs in Italy: Cosa Excavations and the Poggio Civitate Archaeological Field School.

This year’s HART Lovett Travel Fellowship applications are due this Saturday, March 1, 2205. Applications are open to all undergraduate Rice students of any major and support students traveling to significant sites over the summer to conduct field research in art history, architectural history, and film and media studies.

The Charles Garside AMC Summer Travel Grant supports archaeological training and course-related fieldwork abroad for AMC majors.

Poggio Civiate Archaeological Project Field School, one of the oldest archaeological training programs in the world, is currently recruiting students for this year's summer program that runs from June 25 - August 1, 2025. Participants receive training in all aspects of fieldwork, including excavation and data collection, archaeological survey and drawing, objects conservation, illustration, photography, and cataloging. Visit www.poggiocivitate.com for more details, or you may direct questions to Prof. Sophie Crawford-Brown (sc125@rice.edu), Director of the Program in Ancient Mediterranean Civilizations.
