The Department of Art History had the privilege of hosting Dr. Eddie Chambers, internationally renowned visual artist and Professor of Art History at University of Texas at Austin, for the Menil Distinguished Seminar last Friday where heartfelt introductions were delivered by HART Professors Olivia Young, Denva Gallant, and Leo Costello.
Dr. Chambers is a British contemporary art historian, curator and artist who divides his time between England, Scotland, and Texas. In addition to holding the David Bruton, Jr. Centennial Professorship in Art History at the University of Texas at Austin, he has organized and a curated a number of artists’ exhibitions in the UK and other countries while also writing reviews, catalogued essays, and articles that have been included in numerous journals and magazines. He was Editor-in-Chief of CAA’s Art Journal for three years up to July 2024 and the editor of the just published Routledge Companion to African Diaspora Art History.
In the fall of this year, Dr. Chambers will be joining the faculty of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
