Congratulations to Rachel Harmeyer, PhD Alumna, for accepting a tenure-track position in the Department of Visual Art + Design at Southeastern Louisiana University where she will be teaching Modern and Contemporary Art!
Rachel completed her PhD from the Department of Art History at Rice University in spring 2022 under advisor Dr. Leo Costello with her dissertation, “After Angelica Kauffman: The Art of the Copy in Late Eighteenth-Century Britain,” which examined how art after Angelica Kauffman (1741-1807) exploded in visual and material culture during and after her lifetime with Kaufmann’s imagery saturating late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century British print culture and spreading far beyond Britain and Europe, reaching North America and East Asia through networks of trade.
Rachel is seen here lovingly gazing at (but only pretending to touch!) an urn at the V&A when she co-led the HART in the World: London summer travel abroad program in 2019 with Dr. Costello.
