PhD alumna Katia Zavistovski joins Bechtler Museum of Modern Art as new curator

PhD alumna Katia Zavistovski assumed the post of Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at Charlotte's Bechtler Museum of Modern Art last October. Katia, who previously worked as an Assistant Curator of Modern Art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, will lead the Bechtler's curatorial program, which focuses on European and US modern art and their legacies.

Katia completed her dissertation, "Picturing Common Objects: Vija Celmins, Llyn Foulkes, and Joe Goode in 1960s LA,” in 2021 under the direction of Prof. Graham Bader.  While pursuing her doctoral degree, Katia curated and co-curated a number of exhibitions in Houston, and she previously held curatorial fellowship positions at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; The Menil Collection; and the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. Prior to matriculating at Rice, she earned a master’s degree from Williams College and a bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis, both in art history.
