James T. Wagoner Foreign Scholarship

Karine Raynow

Congratulations to Karine Raynor, PhD candidate, for being awarded the James T. Wagoner Foreign Scholarship! This award allows Rice students and alumni the chance to pursue research abroad for a duration ranging from four weeks to one year.

Obtaining funding support from the Wagoner fellowship, Karine will return to the Jacques-Doucet Literary Library in Paris to finalize her dissertation, titled "Mecanomorphs and the Articulated Body/Machines of Dada: From Object-based Practices to Performance Art," with Prof. Graham Bader serving as her advisor.  Her research delves into the transition from object-based artistic approaches to performance art within Paris Dada, with a specific emphasis on the artist Francis Picabia.

Before studying at Rice, Karine served as the Associate Director and Curator of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) collections in Montreal, Canada.
