Free Thinking: How to Educate Yourself in the Liberal Arts

Free Thinking

Dr. Joseph Manca, Professor of Art History, is hard at work as he published his second new book Free Thinking: How to Educate Yourself in the Liberal Arts this spring!

Joseph Manca's book Free Thinking (Conrad Press, Canterbury, UK: 2024; e-book forthcoming 2025) is a guide to a college-level liberal arts education. Manca provides listings and commentaries to help readers study and enjoy high-quality texts, works of art, film, and classical music. Whether you skipped college or need a refresher or supplement to what you learned, Dr. Manca shows how a college-level liberal arts education can be essentially free and accessible.

The book is available on amazon.co.uk and amazon.com.

Dr. Manca has taught for over thirty-five years at Rice University. He is the author of a number of single-author books and scholarly articles on a broad range of European and American topics, from the Renaissance to contemporary art. He received the John Brinckerhoff Jackson Prize in 2014 from the Foundation for Landscape Studies for his book “George Washington’s Eye” (The John Hopkins University Press, 2012).
