HART students visit The Menil to study Greek pottery & art

HART 355/555: Vessels & Vase-Painting: Ancient Mediterranean Ceramics in The Menil Collection

HART 355

Many of our art history courses aren’t just confined to the classroom and are held in conjunction with local art museums including our new spring course “HART 355/555: Vessels & Vase-Painting: Ancient Mediterranean Ceramics in The Menil Collection,” where students visited The Menil last week to examine the broad history of ceramic production through the vases displayed and stored at the museum.

Dr. Danielle Bennett, Rice lecturer and curatorial associate at The Menil, provides students in her course with an overview of pottery of the ancient Mediterranean world spanning from the Bronze Age to Roman period (ca. 3300 BCE – 400 CE), with a primary focus on ancient Greece, to help students gain insights into their ancient social and cultural histories.
