The annual Department of Art History spring break trip to New York resumed this year with a group of wonderful undergraduate students of various academic backgrounds led by Prof. Gordon Hughes and Prof. Fabiola López-Durán.
Over the course of five days, the group visited important museums and architectural sites in the city, including the The Shed, MET, Guggenheim Museum, New Museum, and the MoMA, where the group privately met with the curator of the Department of Drawings and Prints. The faculty also led students on guided walking tours to examine notable architectural histories around town and towards the leading galleries and museums in Chelsea to explore the contemporary art scene.
Glimpses of their journey together can be seen below, but to view more images of our NYC spring break program and to see which sites the group visited around the Big Apple this year, follow us on Instagram or Facebook.
The New York trip is open to current Rice University undergraduate art history majors and any student with a demonstrable interest in the history of art. Undergraduates are strongly encouraged to apply every year during the fall when submissions are open. Airfare, hotel, and museum admittance are all covered by the department.
