Rice Art History Professors Denva Gallant and Olivia Young led ten lucky undergraduate students on the annual HART in NYC Spring Break Trip this year where the group toured the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture for the first time in the trip's history, in addition to visiting other notable museums like The Whitney, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the Hispanic Society Museum and Library where students were treated to a special concert series "Take Flight."
The trip wrapped up with a private tour of the special Belle da Costa Greene exhibition at The Morgan Library and Museum and a visit to the Affordable Art Fair showcasing contemporary artworks at the Metropolitan Pavilion.
Student participants included: Chloe Chan, Tessa Domsky, Razella Freeman, Avalon Hogans, Davinia Ibizugbe, Luis Martinez, Lynette Ochoa, Dara Olanreqaju, Evie Vu, and Taylor Xu.
The annual HART spring break trips are open to all Rice undergraduates of any major, and the department covers all flights, lodging, and museum tickets for students. The Department of Art History is grateful to the generous donorsĀ as well as the Mary Ellen Hale Lovett Traveling Fellowships, Anne E. Treichler Travel Awards, and William Edwin Bryan, Jr., Traveling Fellowships in Art History for making this trip possible for the students.
