Stephanie Chadwick (Rice Art History Ph.D. 2015), currently Assistant Professor of Art History at Lamar University, has received a contract with Bloomsbury Press for her book Jean Dubuffet, Bricoleur: Portraits, Pastiche, Performativity

One of the most prolific and influential artists of the twentieth century, Jean Dubuffet remains one of the most misunderstood—and least interrogated—French artists in the period following World War Two. Chadwick’s book explores Jean Dubuffet’s portraits in relation to the cultural activities of his sitters, revealing his visual and thematic borrowings from Surrealism, Art Brut, and a variety of ethnographic cultural sources. Jean Dubuffet, Bricoleur reexamines Dubuffet’s art through the lens of these portraits in tandem with his writings and the art and writings of his Surrealist sitters.
