Course Description:

This seminar will examine the role played by emotion in our response to works of art.  What is the relationship of emotion to the specific formal properties of a given work of art, such as color, texture, shape, line quality, sound, and so on?  What role do our cognitive faculties play in determining our emotional response to art?  Are there political stakes to emotional affect?
